Vitiligo

Symptoms

Vitiligo is an auto-inflammatory skin condition characterized by a complete loss of pigment or depigmentation of the affected skin. It may also be associated with other diseases such as diabetes and thyroid disease.

What Is Vitigilo?

Vitiligo is a chronic skin condition characterized by the loss of pigmentation, resulting in white patches on the skin, which leads to lightening of the affected areas. It occurs when melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin, are destroyed or dysfunctional. While the exact cause remains unclear, it is thought to involve genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. Beyond skin discoloration, vitiligo can significantly impact a patient's self-image. Additionally, individuals with vitiligo may have a higher risk of developing other autoimmune diseases such as autoimmune thyroiditis and type 1 diabetes.
