Ear Lobe Repair

What is an Ear Lobe Repair?

Ear lobes frame the face and can change dramatically over our life span. Sun damage, heavy earrings, trauma, keloid scars, cysts, and skim tears can alter the appearance of this structure. Board-certified dermatologists work with patients to offer treatment solutions to help restore its function and aesthetic.

When Should I Seek Evaluation?

Most patients consider ear lobe surgery when they notice the lobe affecting their daily routines. They can no longer wear their favorite earrings, the area has become sensitive, or other people are commenting on the appearance of the area.

For mild changes, dermal fillers can help to restore volume and reposition the ear lobe. In the case of tears, scar tissue or moderate to severe skin laxity, surgical intervention may be recommended. This is an outpatient procedure that does require stitches. Overall, it is well-tolerated and can lead to a beautiful result with the appropriate after care.

Procedure Overview

  • Most patients are able to pierce their ears again. We review the post-care treatment regimen at the time of your surgery. Some patients are able to pierce their ears within a few weeks while others will be recommended to wait a few months.

  • Bruising, swelling, and a smalls scar are expected after surgery. We recommend light physical activity for at least 72 hours with gradual return to activity - this will also be reviewed with you at the time of your consultaiton and procedure.
